It was a great truck, a fantastic truck, the truck Carter had wanted for a long time. No one had ever seen a truck like it. It made Carter so happy.
Carter was the eleven year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Catilina. He was still pretty immature and liked to play with his old matchbox truck. Carter was sleeping peacefully when he saw his old truck become a real one in his childish dream.
Carter was standing in an unknown place, probably miles away from home, only holding his toy truck. He thought sadly, “If only my truck were real, then I could drive home now.” He stood there silently, looking upset. But suddenly the truck in his hand began to expand. He let go of it and backed off as the truck became larger than Carter himself. Soon, the truck stopped expanding. Carter could hardly believe his eyes! His toy had become real! He eagerly got in the driver’s seat and tried to turn on the engine. But the engine was as dead as a doornail.
He was trying to figure out what was wrong when a light popped up and a voice said, “NO FUEL! NO FUEL!”
Carter was startled, but he quickly calmed down, and got himself to think. “This truck has no gasoline, so we need to get some,” he said to himself. “But how?”
He looked around the place, but there was no gas station here, so he scouted farther away. About half an hour later, Carter found a gas station two miles away. When he came back to the truck, he knew the only way to get it to the gas station was to push it. Surprisingly, the large truck was nearly weightless and was not hard to push along. Soon, he got the truck to the gas station and fuel was gushing into the tank. Luckily, Carter had his birthday money in his pocket, so he paidfor the gas with that.
He finally got the truck going on the road and was trying to find a way home when he saw a GPS screen. He swiftly typed in his house’s address and pressed GO. Just as Carter was about step on the accelerator, the truck lurched forward. He was surprised to learn that his toy truck had not only became real, but could drive itself. It was already dawn, so more cars were on the road. As traffic grew thicker, Carter noticed that the truck could jump to the front of an unmoving line of cars. That made the return home faster.
When he got home later in the morning, his mom, instead of saying something like, “I missed you! Where were you?” She said, “Wake up! You’ll be late for school!”
Carter figured out that it had been just a dream, and that his mom was waking him up for school. He loved that dream, and just wished it could have been real. He changed his clothes, put his toy truck in his pocket, and went downstairs, feeling happier than ever!
